Yuletide Friend- Robert Schultz

Robert grew up in the Lutheran church in his native Michigan, listening to his mother, Rosadelle, perform as a church soloist. There was always vocal music in home, church, and school. He dreamed of rock and roll at an early age and performed in various garages and basements (OK, some parties and dances too) from eighth grade through high school in various bands. At age 15 he studied voice and sang “legit” in chorus and choirs and twice won scholarships to attend the All State High School Choir at Interlochen National Music Camp. His theater experience began at age 17 in community theater and continued through college graduating from Hope College in Holland, Michigan with a BA in Theater, Performance.

An acting job brought Robert to Atlanta in 1980 where he joined Actors Equity Association. He’s been working in professional theater here ever since, first as an actor, but for the last 20 some years as a stage manager. He is Production Stage Manager at Theater Emory, Emory University www.theater.emory.edu and has worked as one of the stage management staff for the past five summers at Georgia Shakespeare www.gashakespeare.org    Robert tries to maintain his singing chops with occasional solos at Unity Christ Center in Suwanee where he is a member -- and with the University Chorus at Emory University.

Robert met Dana Laughlin when they were cast as husband and wife many years ago at the Atlanta Children’s Theatre/Alliance Theatre in a production called “Sneakers”. Good casting counts for so much! Robert is delighted that Doug asked him to be part of “Yuletide Friends” and to sing a romantic duet with Dana – even if their children can’t stand the mush! (Dan, Eva, and Ivey-- Get over it!)
