Doug's beautiful song about a homeless woman
rescued from the snow and freezing rain on Christmas Eve takes on a timely
new meaning with the recent events in the Gulf. The
homeless problem is suddenly completely in the forefront of everyone's
mind with the attack of Hurricane KATRINA. So, Doug is now donating a portion of the profits from each sale of the CD: Doug Gazlay: YULETIDE FRIENDS and each download of the single: MABLE'S CHRISTMAS (available soon) to charities helping our fellow Americans recover from Hurricane KATRINA. This song originally debuted on my 1992 DOUG GAZLAY: EVERY DAY IS CHRISTMAS WITH YOU cassette tape release. It was performed by "moi" and was the first time I had published an original song. Though my version has great sentimental value to me and my friends and family, it cannot hold a candle to the vocal abilities of my new friend- Amy Thorn. She came onboard at the last minute and was placed on the lead track for this song with only a few days to learn the piece. The original singer could not be available for promotion of the song and was uncomfortable with the video filming, so, I had to make the executive decision to use Amy, who is hungry for success with her music (currently recording her own jazz CD) to sing the part of "THE STORY TELLER". She brings a beautiful, youthful edge to the CD (the youngest featured soloist on the project), and perfectly tells the tale of MABLE-the "hopeful homeless woman in the snow". Especially helpful to this arrangement was the genius of Todd Honeycutt. He once again listened and arranged the beautiful soaring backgrounds that come in at the end of the bridge through the crescendo of the third chorus. His talent, ear and golden voice, literally lifted this song to an almost angelic state. The lyrics to the third chorus change slightly, but if you listen carefully, the "oos" in the background are the tune- "Deck The Halls"! Todd is unbelievably creative. I'm SO glad he joined this project! (Have you heard me say that before? LOL!). This song is the only single being actively promoted from the CD. It became the first song to be put into a Music Video with the help of Doug's theater friends: Patty Guenthner (MABLE), Charles W. Gilliland (KIND STRANGER) and Amy Thorn (STORY TELLER). More info on the video: click here. The video will be condensed for easy transmission across the web and sent as a touching Christmas message across the World Wide Web this holiday season. Watch for it in your e-mail box soon! If you'd like to have MABLE'S CHRISTMAS Music Video E-card sent free to you, please e-mail Doug and request a copy at: doug@bydoug.com . |
