Traditional Christmas song with, once again, Doug's unique and driving energy. It takes on an almost- "Phantom of the Carol of the Opera Bells" feel; which was totally accidental, but sounds cool. Doug programmed the keyboards, but played the piano without programming. It's all Doug, no quantizing, so, there is a natural excitement and energy that permeates the arrangement. |

As stated above, I didn't expect that this song would
take on such a "dark" or "rich" overtone, but it did with the operatic tones
of Dana's vocals. They are beautiful and haunting at the
same time. Mike Stewart toughens the section that he
participates in, also.
Each performer above added their voices to add the vocal flavor of the traditional. Each one is panned in a different position at the end to sound like the voices are actually ringing like bells. Try putting headphones on while listening to fully hear the effect. It's cool. I was inspired to do this song because I knew I wanted a great instrumental on this album. This one has such emotion that it was only natural to be included. I had just witnessed THE GAITHER HOMECOMING in Atlanta, Georgia, where I saw an accomplished pianist do a solo with an orchestra track and I knew that's where I was going with this. I put on a basic drum track, then just cut loose with whatever came out. Afterwards I edited the track down and rerecorded certain parts. But about 30% of the song, mainly toward the end, are the original "experimental" parts that I started with. The emotion was hard to recreate, so, I kept the original working track for the final. I truly hope you'll enjoy my "little dittie"! |
